How Can We Help?
Is calibration completely automated?
Almost! While “fully automatic” depends on your specific camera model, we have designed the process to be as hands-off and seamless as possible.
The “Fully Automatic” Classics
A select group of early DSLRs allows FoCal to take total control of the internal settings. For these models, you can simply click “Start” and watch the software work:
- Nikon: D3, D300, D700
- Canon: Up to the EOS 5D Mark II and EOS-1D Mark IV
The “User-Assisted” Modern Standard
For most modern DSLRs and supported mirrorless cameras, manufacturers have added security layers that require the user to manually confirm focus adjustment changes on the camera body.
Don’t worry – we’ve made this incredibly easy:
- Voice Prompts: FoCal will literally talk to you, telling you exactly which value to set so you never have to take your eyes off the camera or look at the computer screen.
- Camera Hotkeys: Once you’ve changed the setting on your camera, you can press a specific button (dial click and shutter button press) to signal to FoCal that you’re ready. You don’t even have to touch your mouse.
- Fast & Repetitive: A typical test requires only about 5 manual adjustments. After the first couple of tries, the button presses become “muscle memory,” and the whole process takes just a few minutes.
Whether your camera is fully automated or assisted, FoCal does all the heavy lifting – analyzing the data, calculating the numbers, and finding your lens’s “sweet spot” with scientific precision.
