This is a quick post to clarify the use of Passwords and PayPal Transaction IDs in both the License Management System and the FoCal appliaction itself.
What’s the problem?
A few weeks ago we launched a significant update to our online License Management System, and one of the changes was to allow you to be able to set your own password for their license rather than having to find an obscure PayPal Transaction ID that we sent out when you first purchased FoCal.
The problem is that we haven’t (yet) released an update to the FoCal application since this change, so the wording in the application can be a bit misleading when you enter your license details.
When do I use my Password and when do I use the PayPal Transaction ID?
The following scenarios explain what to use:
- I bought FoCal online before 14th May 2014 and have NOT set a password
You should use the PayPal Transaction ID that we sent out in the original purchase email. You can use this and your email address to log in to the LMS and create a password, and then forget about the PayPal Transaction ID for good.
- I bought FoCal online before 14th May 2014 and I HAVE set a password
You should now completely forget about the PayPal Transaction ID. Use your new password to log in to the LMS online, and also for the License Management window in FoCal. Any reference to “PayPal Transaction ID” either online or in the software should be replaced with your password.
- I bought FoCal online after 14th May 2014
When you purchased FoCal you would have been given a password in the purchase email sent to you. You should use this password anywhere that either a password or PayPal Transaction ID is requested, both online and in the software.
- I bought FoCal in a box
Once you activated FoCal, you would have been given a password in the installation email sent to you. You should use this password anywhere that either a password or PayPal Transaction ID is requested, both online and in the software.
- I don’t know whether I’ve got a password!
The easiest thing to do here is to go to the License Management System page at lms.fo-cal.co.uk and use the “Reset my Password” box at the bottom. This will work whether you had a password before or not, and will allow you to create a new password quickly and easily.
Ending the Confusion
We’re planning another release of FoCal within the next 2 weeks which will change the wording in the software (and also properly hide your password as you enter it in the software), so hopefully that will clear up any confusion that might have arisen.
Sorry about any confusion this might have caused.
