FoCal 5.1 is here – and it’s noticeably faster

FoCal 5.1 is available now, and the headline change is one you’ll feel immediately: image analysis is approximately six times faster than before. That’s not a marginal increment – it means the time you spend waiting for results is a fraction of what it was.

Performance

Image analysis speed improved by approximately 6 times
Improved image analysis for Live View control
Core framework updates for improved reliability, security and performance

Calibration Check Calibration Check has had significant reliability work, particularly for mirrorless cameras. If you’ve experienced inconsistent or unexpected results with mirrorless bodies, this release addresses that directly.

Interface The full UI has been modernised – same workflow, cleaner experience.

Bug fixes

Fixed a rare crash in MultiTest
Fixed a startup stall that could occur when updating the database
Fixed an issue where some score comparisons used the wrong focal length
Security updates in third-party libraries

Get Reikan FoCal 5.1

FoCal 5.1 is a free update for all users within their Included Updates Period as of 16th May 2026. You can download the new version using one of the following methods:

Via the Web: Log in to your FoCal Account and head to the downloads section.

In-App Update: Open your current version of FoCal and navigate to About > Update Check. Simply click the Download button to grab the latest installer.

Has your update period expired? If you are outside of the updates window, you can easily purchase an additional 12 months of updates. Log in to your FoCal Account and scroll to the Included Updates Period section to renew and get instant access to version 5.1.

New to FoCal? If you haven’t joined the FoCal family yet, you can purchase the software and calibration targets directly from our Online Store and start getting the most out of your camera gear today.

Operating System Support

See below for information about which versions of operating system are supported.

Windows

The following versions of Windows (64-bit) are supported

Windows 11 (21H2 and later)
Windows 10 (21H2 and later)

FoCal can be installed and should work on the following versions of Windows, but as they are no longer supported by Microsoft we only do limited testing:

Windows 10 (pre 20H2) – Microsoft support ended 10^th May 2022
Windows 8.1 – Microsoft support ended 9^th January 2018
Windows 7 SP1 – Microsoft support ended 13^th January 2015

Mac

The following versions of macOS are supported

macOS Tahoe (26.x)
macOS Sequoia (15.x)
macOS Sonoma (14.x)*

* Note: Due to a bug in macOS, cameras may not show for connection in FoCal on versions of macOS older than 14.2.1. Update to macOS14.2.1 (December 2023) and use FoCal 4.0.1 or later to fix this issue.

Older versions of FoCal can be installed and should work on the following versions of macOS, but as they are no longer supported by Apple we only do limited testing:

iPhone and iPad

FoCal Mobile will run on any device running iOS/iPadOS 12 or later.

Android

The Android version of FoCal Mobile can be installed on all devices running Android 9 (Pie) or later.

There is a huge variety of Android devices and we can only test on a small subset. FoCal is an intensive application and we recommend using newer mid- to high-end Android devices with at least 4GB of RAM.

NOTE: The free version of FoCal Mobile deliberately offers the ability to connect to a camera, Verify Setup and run AF System Check, so you should ensure that these all run reliably before purchasing a subscription.
