Canon EOS 7D Mark II Update…

7D Mark II Progress

Canon haven’t released a new camera for quite a while, and there are some significant changes in the way the computer communicates with the 7D Mark II which are slowing us down a little in providing support for this camera.

We’ve ironed most things out but a few critical issues showed up during our extensive pre-release testing and we have to find reliable solutions to these.  We’re not definite yet, but there is a chance we may release the Windows version a little before the Mac version to make sure that we can get support out as quickly as possible.

It shouldn’t be too long before we have a functional version of FoCal available for you… sorry about the delay but we’ll get it done as quickly as we can.

    • Hi Kenneth,

FoCal Version 2 is ‘soon’ (as Rich has been saying!) but it is now very soon (perhaps within a week or so!) 🙂

One of the questions we are asked via the support tickets is whether the upgrade between V1 and V2 is a paid upgrade or free upgrade.

We would usually charge a reduced rate for an upgrade through a major version (e.g. FoCal 1 to FoCal 2), but for the release of FoCal 2 we will NOT be charging an upgrade fee for FoCal Version 2 for current FoCal users.

      Best Regards,
      Dave

Can you put me on an email list and let me know when the software for the Canon 7D II will be available? I am very interested in your product and have found I’m not good at doing MFA on my own. 😉

  • Hi,
I believe I could earlier calibrate my 7DII with full automatic way but tried today new version 2.06 and should set each time MAU manually. Is it correct? My firmware version is 1.05. Is it sth Canon did to make more difficult to set lens corrections. I observed also a big dispersion of results with my Sigma 50/1.4 Art lens with Sigma software.

    • Hi Sylwester,

Sadly the 7DII has always been ‘user assisted’. It comes about because of the way Canon has restricted what can be changed, it all started with the changes to the 5DIII and all Canon cameras since do require user input of the AFMA value as part of the automated calibration.

The Sigma lens / dock is an interesting area, we are working on providing a tutorial for using FoCal in combination with the Sigma Dock. We have so far some notes (raise a support request and I can send you what we have).

      Best Regards,

      • Hi Dave,
thank you for your answer. I could mix my experience with 7D I’d owned before.

Regarding Sigma Art lens calibration and their USB dock – it will be great to bind Focal potential with lens settings on 4 different distances to target. Now I’m doing this by setting 0 with MFA in body for my 50/1.4 Art and then testing manualy with other target for dock software corrections. I’ll appreciate any info concerning this.

        Best regards,
        Sylwester
